In Spring DualDocker & Blue21 conducted a study on the „safety & comfort“ of large buildings in severe storms and rough seas.

The following areas were examined:

• dynamic behaviour

• damping

• resonance

• comfort and load response under the analysed conditions

The result was convincing:

DualDocker has proven itself to be a very good mooring system under all conditions.

DualDocker systems are free of play at any water level and highly damped.

• this means an incredibly calm position, therefore maximum comfort in wind and waves.

• But this also means maximum safety in storms and high waves. DualDocker absorbs the kinetic energy from wind and waves.

How do we approach implementation in practice?

• You provide us with your current available plans and customer requirements for the project.

• DualDocker creates an initial base calculation and then does the mooring planing

• Technology Controlling: Blue21 creates the simulations (including max. acting forces, movements and accelerations, earthquake safety and safety against resonance amplification). If necessary, a comparison with other mooring methods is also carried out.

• The results are then used for the important fine-tuning with all parties involved.

• Results control: Determining which information and data will be reviewed and documented for a defined period after project completion.

Example:

A strong gust of wind suddenly hits the floating object with full force.

The energy of the gust of wind is absorbed by the high damping.

The floating structure lies still in the water again after a few seconds.

If this floating structure is attached with a rigid mooring system, then the gust of wind will cause higher holding forces and a strong, longer-lasting rocking motion.

After a few seconds, the next strong gust of wind may arrive. The floating object then rocks more and more.
