RUNGSTED HAVN / DENMARK

Information about the Marina
The Marina in Rungsted Havn is situated 20 km north of Copenhagen. The harbour is well breakwater protected. The harbour entrance is 40 metres wide. With strong northerly winds, however, there can be water movement in the marina. Denmark is known to have strong winds reaching more than 100 km/h.

History - The DualDocker in Denmark
Since October 2008 the DualDocker is being put to the test in Rungsted Havn. Kjeld Søderlund - a retired Senior Commander in the Royal Danish Navy - has been testing the DualDocker with his 35' motor yacht 'SMUT', a Norwegian Marex. In spite of winds reaching 35 knots and gusts up to 50 knots, 'SMUT' rests calm in the harbour. With strong winds like that, spring lines - tied from midship to the DualDocker's harbour adapter - provide extra security. The DualDocker's shock absorbers and the spring lines absorb wind and wave energy. The DualDocker's two arms prevent the yacht from swinging. Kinetic energy is reduced to a minimum.

Summary
Kjeld is very satisfied with the DualDocker's performance. The yacht rests calmer than before, even with heavy gusts hitting it. Easy docking also plays a role for him since with the help of the DualDocker it is easier for him to tie up his yacht on his own - a challenging task without the DualDocker. Getting on board is also easier since the distance stern - pier stays the same all the time and it only takes a small step to master it. No climbing, no jumping, no ladder needed. No more bow lines means no stress when leaving the berth: Just disengage the two arms and GO !
